Our Bespoke service
On occasions we are able to make a special one off rug to a customer’s request. Rugs can be made up to one metre wide and two metres long or indeed any size up to that maximum.
Owing to our partnerships with Mallalieus and Melin Tregwynt, in addition to our supply from the Isle of Lewis, we are now in the position where we have much more chance of meeting specific colour requests.
Process
If you require a different sized rug, this is how we would go about making it happen…
Contact us.
Contact us via ‘contact’ page on our website or via gneissrugs@hotmail.com stating your name, size requirements and colours. I will then email you to discuss further and see if the project is possible.
Project initiation.
If possible, the project will be initiated. I will firstly finalise cost. This will be calculated by weight of selvedge needed and charged at £27 per 1,000 grams of wool. So, for example, a hall runner, 62 cm wide by 2m long would need 6,000 grams of wool and thus be £162. At this stage an approximate postage charge can be quoted.
Design it.
If the price is acceptable, I will email you photos of the selvedge and discuss the design. Once agreed a 50% non refundable deposit needs to be sent by bank transfer, and once the money arrives I will commence making the rug.
The making of the Rug.
I will send photos of the making of the rug throughout its construction.
Finishing touches.
Once finished I will measure, weigh and get a firm postage price. Once the final 50% plus postage has been transferred, the rug will be posted and should be with you within 3 to 5 days.
Working together.
I realise this all sounds a bit formal, but a clearly stated way of working means we can all relax and enjoy the process.
Previous Projects…
Here are two rugs specially made for clients. One is a runner and measures 60cm x 200cm. The other is a rug for a lounge which measures 1 metre x 1.5 metres.

Caveat
It is easy to get a very precise length, but width is a bit trickier. The number of pegs on the loom has to be even, so width is harder to get exact. I will tell you how close we can get to your required width in the early stages of the process.
